Kenneth S. Saladin is Professor of Biology at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, where he has taught since 1977. Ken teaches human anatomy and physiology, introductory medical physiology, histology, animal behavior, and natural history of the Galápagos Islands. He has also previously taught introductory biology, general zoology, sociobiology, parasitology, and biomedical etymology. What a wonderful book, I couldn't put it down What a wonderful book, I couldn't put it down! I cannot even imagine going through the last stages of my own life and being as brave as Morrie. He was filled with such happiness and joy in his own life. He had regrets but realized that it is okay as long as you can reconcile with yourself in the end. Many different quotes, paragraphs, and pages inspired me or triggered me to reflect upon my own life.The idea of detaching oneself from emotions just perplexed me. I was heart broken in the end. Morrie says, "If you hold back on the emotions - if you don't allow yourself to go through them - you can never get to being detached, you're too busy being afraid. You're afraid of the pain, you're afraid of the grief. You're afraid of the vulnerability that loving entails. But by throwing yourself into these emotions, by allowing your self to dive right in, all the way, over your head even, you experience them fully and completely. You know what pain is. You know what love is. You know what grief is. And only then can you say, 'All right. I have experienced that emotion. I recognize that emotion. Now I need to detach from that emotion for a moment.'"Another quote that I find illuminating... "In the beginning of life, when we are infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive right?... But here's the secret: in between, we need others as well." This line in the book had me stop and think about everything I have in my life rather than anything I am "missing" in life. Why should we focus on not having that special someone, when truly, many of us have multiple people in our lives that care for us and will be there for us in the end. Although Morrie does go on to say that everyone should find that love to marry. But why do we need to? While I hope to find my "true love" I still am blessed for those I have met in the past to years. I am only ashamed that I never saw them sitting right there in front of me until I read this book.If you ever find yourself questioning what is important in life or how you should divide your time among the many active aspects of your life, read this book!highly recommend it Tuesdays with Morrie, written by Mitch Albom, is a wonderful book about the meaning of life and life’s most important lessons. When Mitch goes back to see his old professor, who has a limited time left due to a disease that has taken over his life, they recall life lessons from Morrie. Filled with advice for all ages, Tuesdays with Morrie is a short book that everyone should find the time to read. Whether you’re looking for a quick read or a meaningful book, Tuesdays with Morrie is guaranteed to leave you satisfied with a new outlook on life. After hearing news of Morrie’s impending death, Mitch takes a break from being a workaholic and goes back to visit his professor. Mitch becomes a developed character after listening and comprehending Morrie’s “last class”. Morrie tells various stories and outlooks on life which leave the reader looking for more advice and insight; for example, one of my favorite quotes from the book reads “Death ends a life, not a relationship”. This is truly a book which discusses the meaning of life, the priorities of life, and the perspectives of life. While this book can be a bit sad, as it discusses death and such, I still recommend this to those mature enough. However, do not be surprised if you become attached to the character Morrie and find yourself upset as you read about what he goes through on a daily basis with his disease. Besides that, Tuesdays with Morrie is a book that all people should read and enjoy. Find time to sit down, to enjoy, and to reflect on Morrie’s pure advice on life.

My Review and a Guide to Reading the Book. ***UPDATED*** I read a lot of books, and I often love what I read, but I literally (no pun intended) have not been this excited about reading a book since I was a kid. It's not just the story (or should I say stories), or all the ephemera and the clever, well-produced presentation. It's how it all combines to actually make you feel like you're in on it. That you're trying to figure it all out right along with Jen and Eric. Reading and re-reading The Ship of Theseus for clues and inferences to what's happening in the "real world". The whole time watching as J&E's relationship evolves. Then, if you're really adventurous, and you start tapping Google to expand your research, you'll find that the experience goes beyond the book. (Google: Eotvos Wheel) ***I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DO THIS***I'll admit: when I opened the book for the first time, the second thought that went through my mind (after "How frigging cool is this?") was, "How the heck am I gonna read this?"So, for those of you asking that same question, let me tell you how I went about it:As cool as all the inserts are, trying to keep them from falling out of the book as you're reading is a pain, so take them out and use post-it notes to mark what page they came from, then put them in an envelope that you can easily access.Now, J&E's notes are not entirely in chronological order. You can generally go by the color of the ink between them to tell what phase of their story you're at.First, there's Eric's pencil notes to himself about the actual book. Then, the convo between J&E begins when Jen picks up Eric's book and sees his notes and begins commenting on them in the margins. He sees this and writes back. Those early messages are Jen: Blue Ink - Eric: Black InkAt some point after they go through the book a first time, they go through again. This time Jen: Orange Ink - Eric: Green Ink.Then a third time Jen: Purple Ink - Eric: Red InkFinally, a fourth time (which seems to be after the denouement, in which they retrospectively discuss what has transpired). These are less frequent, and both Jen and Eric are in Black Ink.***Read each chapter of the main text of SoT, ignoring all of Jen & Eric's notes. Upon finishing each chapter, you're going to want to go back and read only the blue/black notes and any referenced inserts. Then, move on to the next chapter. After you finish the whole book, go back and read only the orange/green notes and referenced inserts. Then purple/red, then black/black.***However you choose to approach it, you're in for a treat. Even after finishing it, I'm still going back and looking for anything I may have missed. The journey was fantastic and the the destination was, well you'll see.C.R.I.P. Free time This book is one of the few that I have read multiple times and have discovered something new each time.How dare J.J. Abrams team up with an author and effectively rob me of my free time. Now who will make hamburgers at McDonald's when all of my time is spent flipping back and forth in this book trying to discover every conspiracy.... I can't believe I even found time for this review.... I've gotta go... the book is calling me.

Terri Roberts’ Forgiven: The Amish School Shooting, A Mother’s Love, and a Story of Remarkable Grace is one of the most compelling accounts of the practice of Christian forgiveness and healing that I’ve read in a long time. The fact that is recounts real lives living Christianly is a testament to the difference that Jesus Christ makes in the real world.

Forgiven recounts the events of October 2, 2006, and the Nickel Mines Schoolhouse shooting in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Forgiveness is at the heart of the Gospel — that God, in Jesus Christ, goes to the greatest lengths to forgive God’s enemies. And what’s more: Christians, then, love others — even our enemies — as a testament to that Gospel. Forgiveness, in other words, is the Christian practice of the difference Jesus makes in our lives. And the Amish know and practice this forgiveness in a way that stuns the world after the events of October 2, 2006.

What makes Forgiven even more compelling is that this story is told from the vantage of one of those most in need of that forgiveness that brings wholeness — the shooter’s family (in particular, Terri is the mother of the shooter). Terri and Chuck Roberts were well-known, well-loved and well-respected in their community and their church. But their lives changed on that day. From their despair, anguish and grief, through trying to understand and make sense of the tragedy and then working to try to bring about healing for their community and family, Teri looks at what forgiveness really means for those extending it and for those receiving it in this little book.

The book itself is a real page-turner. I couldn’t put it down once I’d started reading.
This is an amazingly heart-wrenching story! While I heartily agree with the message of forgiveness, I realize not everyone would be able to read this book because of the difficulty of the situation. I did not find any details to be too descriptive, but (me not being a crier), I fought tears for most of the book.

"Forgiven" takes you not only to the journey of Mrs. Roberts after "The Happening," but she reflects back to life how it was. It goes back and forth between past and present events. In no way does she try to diminish the choice of her son but makes it very clear his choices were a result of his bitterness towards God. Wow.

It was amazing to read how the Amish and Roberts families reached out to each other and bonded together through the love of Christ. Though I do not agree with the doctrine of their churches, what stood out was Christ and His forgiveness–His enabling to forgive. I loved her reminiscence of visiting the Amish the year after "The Happening." No words can describe how awesome it was!

You cannot read the stories of these Amish children without being touched. As I linked the Amish girls’ ages to those of my younger sisters, this story took on a deeper meaning for me. And Roseanna…wow! You just have to read the book to get acquainted with her and her family.

It’s so easy to become tangled up in our own thoughts. Even while I was reading The Mind Connection, my mind would begin to wander, thinking of all the activities I needed to accomplish after finishing this one chapter. Which, in turn, would force me to read the chapter slower and get to the rest of my day at a later time.

In The Mind Connection, Joyce Meyer speaks to the reader regarding the connection between our thoughts, words, and actions. Each thought we have can and will come through when we mull something over – may it be good or bad. No matter how hard we try to keep our thoughts internal, they will find a way to come forth.

Using Scripture, personal stories, and reflection, Meyer provides suggestions on how to clear the mind from the clutter that can come with too many thoughts. As she points out in her book, we cannot control what others say, think, or do, but we can control ourselves. Though it may not be easy, with God’s help all is possible. And in turn, while we are not here to control the change in another person, we can be aware that God is able, and to leave it in His hands.

One of my favorite lines, near the end of the book, sums up the book for me in so many ways. “It is true that what is in our heart comes out of our mouth, but it is also true that what we speak out of mouths will get into our hearts.” Our thoughts are connected to our words, and our words reveal what we keep within our heart.

Broken into four sections with multiple chapters in each, The Mind Connection breaks down how to look within and outside of ourselves. Each chapter is set up in a similar fashion, providing stories and Scripture to provide evidence to her argument.

During a time of personal uncertainty, emptiness and sadness, the mere title of this book moved something inside of me; enough to purchase it with the strong intent of reading it, later that evening. Needless to say, I tried several times, but never felt in the mood, although, I knew it would be a good read.
Six months later, experiencing the same feelings, I took a trip to visit some terminally ill, elder family members and carried this book, as part of my reading.

It is simply written, as though, the author was conversing with me and yet, in other parts, I could hear the Voice of God telling me very simply, that I was BELOVED, a child of His. The power of this book is so Amazing!! As, I write these words, I have an intense feeling of being loved, emotional stirrings in the bottom of my gut and goosebumps on my arms. I am more in touch with God in my daily life, His loving and tender Presence and Voice everywhere, in everything. This book has changed my prior feelings of emptiness, sadness and uncertainty to a more joyful, simple, thankful, childlike approach to living, a sense of peace within myself, a clarity and certainty of my path in life and a powerful, moving love for God in my moment to moment living. Is my life 100 % perfect? Yes, and No, but as I work with God towards that moment of Utopia; I am thankful, centered and at peace in the knowledge that I am BELOVED, safe in God’s Love for me and that everything will unfold, exactly as it is meant to be for me, with my prayer,love,faith and willingness to see God’s message for me.
